Today was again a new day on the Roald Amundsen ship. After a decent night of sleep, I woke up at 7 o’clock. As always it was a little difficult to get out of bed when waking up, but I managed it and after a few minutes I was again ready to start the day. The day started with a quick breakfast with oatmeal. At 8 our shift started until 12. We cleaned the deck of the ship and polished all the parts of the ship that had to be polished. We tuned the sails of the ship so we could go faster because we almost reached the finish.
The best part of the whole day, we reached the finish line and we ended on a very good place! While there are around 30 ships taking part in the race. The last moment before crossing the finish line we had an all hands-on deck where we got the news that we were crossing the finish line before the ship next to us called the Loa. With almost a split-second finish we ended the race proud.
It felt like a friendly battle between two ships where instead of shooting with canons we were standing with all the crew and trainees at the side facing the other ship cheering to the other ship and doing the wave with each other.
We got rewarded for our hard work with candy and brownies, we had really earned it, so it definitely was a win-win situation!

Heute war wieder ein neuer Tag auf der Roald Amundsen. Nach einer Nacht mit ausreichend Schlaf bin ich um 7 aufgewacht. Wie immer war es etwas schwierig aus dem Bett zu kommen, aber nach ein paar Minuten war war ich bereit für den Tag. Der Tag begann mit einem schnellen Frühstück mit Müsli. Um 8 begann unsere Wache und dauerte bis 12. Wir haben das Deck gespült und alles an Bord poliert, das poliert werden wollte. Wir haben die Segel getrimmt um noch ein wenig mehr Fahrt aufzunehmen um die Ziellinie zu erreichen.
Der beste Teil des Tages, wir erreichten die Ziellinie und haben einen sehr guten Platz gemacht unter den ca 30 Schiffen, die teilgenommen haben. Kurz vor dem Ziel gab es ein All Hands an Deck um gemeinsam die Ziellinie zu überfahren. Noch ganz knapp vor der Loa, es war fast schon ein Foto-Finish.
Es fühlte sich an wie eine freundschaftliche Schlacht zwischen 2 Schiffen, statt mit Kanonen standen wir alle an der Rehling und haben einander mit einer Laola Welle gegrüßt.
Für all unsere harte Arbeit gab es Kuchen und Kekse, das hatten wir uns auch redlich verdient.
