This sunny day started with promising wind from behind but then it totally left us floating around by midday. With the Race spirit inside us we kept checking out all the other vessels around us and comparing them to our own current position and hoping for the wind to come back. Our current overall race position is 47 which is one place better than yesterday so heads up. The whole morning we were sailing with all our sails including the Bramstengestagsegel, the Flieger and of course the Briggsegel which we also reefed, which we always enjoy to practice.
The atmosphere on deck is great, and playing UNO kept spirits up as well as good chocolate cake which was not affected by waves like yesterdays lemon cake. People also used the opportunity to climb up the rigging trying to find the mast secret or to climb up the bowsprit to take the best pictures of the day.
Of course we keep shaking Swedes (crossword puzzles with hilarious names) here remembering our dear friends from the trip Kiel- Tallinn. The tradition has to live on. Today a good bridge Swede was solved.
In the watches the trainees showed a lot of motivation and therefore already learnt a lot about all the ropes and their location on the deck. As a crew we noticed that our German ‚Eselsbrücken‘ can help or sometimes also not but generally everyone is trying to do their best to translate into English or any other language required. Also we did safety instructions for all the doors and vents and generally discussed behaviour in a case of emergency.
At about 3pm the wind slowly returns and already our last 2 days at sea started. We will be arriving to Turku latest Thursday morning looking forward to all the TSR events. We still have to come up with a good Crew parade idea.
Stay posted for that and Rettich sich wer kann
