Title: From waiting to celebrating
Author: Nik
My day started with the watch change at midnight. In our night watch we had to brace both tops and move the jibs from Starboard to Portside. When we got the ship all prepared, we went back to the bridge. I went on to steer the ship for a while and our awesome mate and deckhand brought out snacks for us to enjoy. During our watch two flying fish landed on board that we tried to rescue but sadly we were too late. Towards the end of our watch we were looking for different star-constellations. The last 30min everyone was looking forward to our Muesli party after our watch change and we all couldn’t wait to hit the hay. My day kept going at 10am when I came on deck to beautiful weather. Maxim and I got everything ready to put our fishing line out. Not 2min later we had a fish on! We couldn’t believe it after not catching anything yesterday!
When we brought it in I was so happy to see that we caught a Mahi Mahi – by far the best tasting fish! After taking her out of her misery we stowed the fish to enjoy during dinner. I was then able to clean everything up and put the line back out and hope for more.
In my next watch I was able to climb to the top of the front mast to untangle the flag for my Topsgast. The fish we caught earlier was used for proper biology class. I took the fillets of the fish and Niklas explained stuff about it. My watch finished with taking down a jib and packing it away. Throughout the day many sails were packed away from both masts. Our captain gave another class about the different types of sail ships and weather. In addition to dinner everyone got a bite of the fish which was prepared to perfection in the galley. My day ends with packing away two more sails.
