Last night we had our last 0–4 watch (because we’re going to change the watches after our stay in Tenerife) and celebrated it with a muesli party until half past five.
That’s why we were a bit tired in the morning when we had our first physics class on deck. Our task was to measure different things on the ship in unusual units (like the height of a person in apples or the length of the deck in oranges). The class was really interesting and funny because sometimes the waves splashed onto the deck and we had to jump up so our tablets wouldn’t get wet.
Ulli, our captain, then told us that the first person to see Tenerife would get a reward, so everyone loved being on lookout. At around five o’clock, the mountains of the Canary Islands appeared between the clouds on the horizon. Olivia was the first one to spot them and was given an old coin by Ulli.
In the afternoon, we climbed into the rigg to pack the sails for our arrival tomorrow. It was a bit scary at first to be standing so high up in the rigg while the ship was moving because of the waves, but we had an amazing view from up there and finally got the chance to use the knots we’d practiced so much during our watch.
After dinner, we went to the mess room and are now playing card games together.
A few minutes ago, the ship stopped and we dropped anchor in front of the harbour where we’re going to arrive tomorrow. Now we’re all making plans for our stay in Tenerife and we’re already really excited for the next few days!
