This morning, we finally arrived in Cuba — the stop we were most excited about. Due to Cuba’s current situation, both politically and because of the dengue fever outbreak, we had been a bit concerned.
So far, everything has gone smoothly. We arrived in the harbor, where the migration officers were already waiting for us. As soon as our ship touched the pier, we had to give the officers a tour of the ship and fill out a health declaration form.
Luckily, everything went well and the immigration process was very relaxed.
In addition, we saw the Johann Smith leaving the harbor shortly after our arrival.
I still can’t quite believe that we are finally here, as Cuba was one of the countries I had been looking forward to the most.
After setting up the sunshade and the outdoor tables, we were able to relax for a short while and enjoy the view during lunch.
Work never ends on the ROALD, so we had to continue with various tasks on board. Some of us climbed to the top of the mast to oil the blocks and fix some ropes.
Everyone else was able to use the time to relax on deck and enjoy the warm sunshine.
During this time, we met some very friendly people on land who organized some fresh coconuts from the nearby trees for us.
In exchange, we gave them a piece of blue cheese, which we hope they will enjoy.
Later, Julius accidentally threw Louisa’s Croc into the water — and we will probably never see it again. What do you think would be a clever way to make things right again?
For the rest of the day, we will watch a movie and our self-made expedition films.
