Before we could even start our morning, our ship was already surrounded by several small wooden boats. They were fully packed with souvenirs such as shells, handmade bracelets, stitched T-shirts, and many other colorful items, sold for around 5 to 30 dollars. The inhabitants of the islands our ship had anchored next to tried to sell us their beautiful products. The island is called Guna Yala, also known as San Blas, and the people are called the Guna.
After they had transformed our ship into a marketplace, we bought as many souvenirs as we could carry in our hands. It is incredible to think that everything was handmade and that this is their only source of income. Suddenly, two men jumped onto our ship holding live lobsters in their hands. After a short discussion, we bought a few of them and could already look forward to our dinner. I personally kept my distance because they looked a little scary.
Afterwards, we had some time to plan our expedition days in Costa Rica and went through passport control.
Later in the evening, we had the chance to visit the island the people from the morning came from and explore a small island of about 100 × 100 meters. As soon as we arrived, the shopping continued, and everyone bought at least two things.
It seemed like there were more children than parents on the island, but everyone welcomed us warmly, and we played many games with them. We had so much fun that we couldn’t stop laughing, especially when the little girls started jumping on our shoulders and wouldn’t stop touching us. Over time, more and more surprises appeared, such as small dogs and cats, a parrot, and even a pig. There was also a kind of church on the island. Time flew by, and the last people boarded the Roald just before sunset.
Thanks to the chefs who spent the entire evening in the kitchen preparing a fantastic meal with the lobsters. It was so delicious that there were no leftovers at all.
Grüße:
