Today started like any other day on board. Hakuna Matata blasted through the silent ship at exactly 7:00 a.m., waking us up in a good mood. When we went up for breakfast, we noticed something written on the whiteboard: PROVIANTIERUNG 8:00. With this (expected) challenging exercise closer by the minute, we shuddered at the thought of all the aubergines and zucchinis we would have to load on board in the next few hours.
When Deli announced that the provisioning would begin in a few minutes, she told us that around six to seven people would need to go ashore and help load the food into the dinghy. To be honest, the horror of having to store supplies in the Dosen- and Trockenlast made me volunteer faster than Flash himself. I was really glad that Deli allowed me to go together with Max, Matilda, Joshua, Karl, Anton, Neele, Beeke, and Julius.
The dinghy ride to shore was short yet refreshing, and as soon as we stepped onto land, we saw the truck waiting to be unloaded. When we opened it theatrically, our worst nightmares came true and all our prayers from the past month went unanswered: the first thing we saw were two ginormous bags filled with aubergines and zucchinis. Eww…
Still, we didn’t let our mood drop (especially since we also spotted mangoes, which immediately made the zucchinis and aubergines seem less important) and began sorting everything into the dinghy and a speedboat Deli had organized. After that, we spent (more or less) the entire day sorting the provisions into the Lasten and the Backskisten.
In the evening, another nightmare came true: we had to say goodbye to our dear Fenia. We sang a shanty (Leave Her, Johnny), and some of us cried so much that you could have filled the Atlantic Ocean with our tears. We then gave her a card filled with beautiful memories we had shared together (mine was a short but lovely conversation at the Bribris place).
When we said goodbye one last time, we all did a la-ola wave and banged on the outside of the ship. Watching Fenia drive away was incredibly sad because of all the wonderful memories we shared together. Goodbye, Fenia — we will all miss you ❤️
