    Daily Life on Board

Experience the thrill of sailing on an international voyage aboard the brig ROALD AMUNDSEN! For this unique journey, we bring together an international crew that sails, learns, and faces the challenges of life at sea together. Setting sails, maintaining course, and working as a team—these are just a few of the tasks awaiting you.

Watch System – Taking Responsibility Together

At the start of the voyage, you’ll be assigned to one of three watches:

    – **Watch 1:** 00:00-04:00 and 12:00-16:00

    – **Watch 2:** 04:00-08:00 and 16:00-20:00

    – **Watch 3:** 08:00-12:00 and 20:00-24:00

During your watch, you will steer the ship, keep lookout, and help with navigation under the guidance of the experienced crew. Safety is our top priority: at the beginning of the voyage, there will be a thorough safety briefing, and the entire crew will learn the basic commands and line handling. Step by step, you will be introduced to daily life on board—from climbing the rigging to actively participating in sail handling and ship maneuvers.

    Teamwork and Camaraderie at Sea

On board, every helping hand counts, and every watch contributes to the shared success. Whether on lookout, at the helm, or in the galley: teamwork turns the crew into a true community. Everyone pitches in, whether cleaning the ship or working in the “backschaft” (galley). Day by day, you will learn more about the ROALD AMUNDSEN and the principles of traditional seafaring, enabling you to act more independently and take on increasing responsibility.

International Cooperation – New Friendships and Unforgettable Moments

On the ROALD AMUNDSEN, you will meet people from all over the world, overcome language barriers, and work closely together. Only through coordinated teamwork can the sails be optimally set and positioned in the wind—a task that requires trust and communication. Whether maneuvering on deck or climbing the rigging together, you will quickly learn to rely on your crewmates and form friendships that often last a lifetime.

    Details Stockholm

Stockholm. The Capital of Scandinavia. A magic of light and water: Stockholm is located where Lake Mälaren, Sweden’s third-largest lake, flows into the Baltic Sea. In Stockholm, the largest city in Scandinavia, history and breathtaking nature blend naturally with the cultural elegance of past times, modern architecture, and the vibrancy of a bustling metropolis. The trendy city features cozy neighborhoods, green relaxation oases, and abundant water. Stockholm consists of 14 islands connected by over 50 bridges—like a Nordic Venice. Since 1643, Stockholm has been the residence of the King. Its palace is said to have one more room than Buckingham Palace in London. A visit to the Vasa, an impressive ship from the Thirty Years’ War, is also worthwhile: With a length of 62 meters and a width of nearly 12 meters, the ship was designed to demonstrate Sweden’s power to the world. What a disaster when the Vasa sank on its maiden voyage in 1628, just minutes after leaving its home port. It wasn’t until over 300 years later that the wreck was rediscovered and painstakingly salvaged. Over 14,000 individual parts were meticulously conserved and reassembled. Today, the ship is located near the Nordic Museum in a dock of the former naval shipyard. Stockholm’s most modern museum tells the music history of one of the world’s most successful bands: ABBA! In addition to a wealth of information, there are numerous interactive stations where visitors can perform the music of the pop idols themselves and feel like a real pop star. Mamma mia!

    Details Rauma

Rauma. The Wooden Town by the Sea. Rauma, located in the southwest of Finland on the Baltic Sea coast, is one of the oldest cities in Scandinavia and the third-oldest city in Finland. The entire old town, with around 600 colorful wooden houses, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1991 and is home to the largest historical wooden house district in Northern Europe. Rauma was founded in 1442 and quickly developed into a center of seafaring. In 1897, the city had the largest Finnish sailing fleet with 57 ships. The houses in the winding streets, all bearing historical names, feature richly decorated facades. While other wooden house districts in the north often succumbed to fire, Rauma’s beautiful old town has remained untouched by fire since 1682, making it exceptionally well-preserved. Over 300 years without a fire: this is a rare phenomenon for a wooden city. The tower of the Holy Cross Church at the edge of the old town, built in 1520, served as a point of reference for seafarers for centuries. The Seafaring Museum offers visitors the opportunity to try Finland’s only navigation simulator. The city is also known for its bobbin lace, so it’s no surprise that there’s a craft store on nearly every corner. Rauma is a vibrant city where its historical heritage continues to thrive in perfect harmony with modern life.
