Sailing in the traditional rhythm of seafaring.
The non-profit association “LebenLernen auf Segelschiffen e.V.” (LLaS) operates the brig ROALD AMUNDSEN.
The association’s goals are to promote sailing, experiential educational sailing, seamanship on traditional tall ships, international understanding, and intergenerational encounters aboard a traditional vessel. The association supports experience-based and action-oriented learning with an emphasis on acquiring essential social skills. It fosters interaction between people of different backgrounds and generations – actively sailing a tall ship enables everyone to take responsibility for themselves, for others, and for the maritime environment.
What makes the association’s work special is that every member, as a crew member, takes on a piece of responsibility for themselves and, beyond that, for others and the ship. This becomes particularly evident when working on deck and in the rigging: without mutual trust and joint, deliberate, and careful action, not much can be achieved on a brig like the ROALD AMUNDSEN. The ROALD AMUNDSEN only moves forward when everyone participates and actively pitches in. It is only through community that progress can be made under sail on the ROALD AMUNDSEN. This is also part of the traditional seamanship that is lived aboard.
The wide range of SailTraining programs offered on the training ship caters to young people and adults of all ages. It includes school and youth trips, research voyages, journeys for all generations, day trips, introductory sails, transatlantic crossings, professional development events, theme-oriented voyages, and much more. No prior experience is required, just the willingness to discover something new and become part of the crew.
