Together to the Sea! Sailing, sailing, sailing. With passion and enthusiasm
Once surrounded by water, one gains a sense of the world and their relationship to it…
Sailing is more than mere physical exercise. It describes a unique way of navigating through life. Once someone has committed to sailing and the camaraderie on board, they cannot let go. The ROALD AMUNDSEN offers extraordinary opportunities to sail with others on a traditional tall ship.
However, before sailing, Rasmus, the god of wind and sea (yes, superstition is as much a part of seafaring as sea tales), has placed elaborate bureaucracy and the intensive maintenance of the ship. Many volunteer members of the association take care of this; they know: “As soon as one task is finished at the stern, you can start again at the bow.”
The Volunteers! Enthusiasts, visionaries, doers, achievers. Women and men. They have all been deeply affected; they have fallen in love with sailing, regardless of whether they grew up by the sea or have been sailors since childhood. The volunteers are the greatest asset of the ROALD AMUNDSEN, a diverse group of people from all walks of life and all age groups—some tied their first sailor’s knot before they could tie their shoes, while others joined later.
What unites them all: they share a goal; they want to successfully and collectively steer a traditional ship on course. They demonstrate that so much is possible when there’s a will. They ensure the preservation of the ship, its operations, and manage all the behind-the-scenes tasks on land. Additionally, there is the unseen work: preparing the voyages, coordinating the permanent crew, organizing training and education, sorting through maintenance plans, arranging dock times, crafting wooden dowels patiently in home workshops…

Sailor and polar explorer
Many members of the association are also actively involved on land around the brig, with over six hundred members trained as permanent crew. They volunteer their time on board without compensation! This dedication allows the brig ROALD AMUNDSEN to be at sea year-round. Thank you to all the volunteers!
