I think one of the saddest parts of our journey is the constant hassle of having to say goodbye. This struggle has followed us over the months and forced its way to us at nearly every stop. There have been so many crew members that have guided us through the toughest parts of this journey. They have seen our highs as well as our lows. Even when some where only around a short time, many have grown on to us quite a bit. Some have become our best friends or a person we really look up to. Many of them have taught us so much and played such great roles in our daily routines that it’s like a hole in our heart when they suddenly aren’t there sitting on deck and laughing with us. You start missing the time you spent together. It goes from teaching us everything they know and answering our dumbest questions to having deeptalk and inside jokes.
Some left for a short time and came back a few weeks later. The day they come back is like a day when we get our letters. Pure Joy! Others we will hopefully see in Amsterdam again.
And that’s what makes this journey so special, not only all the stops and countries, but the people you meet. They introduce you to their world and get to know yours. The positive aspect of having to say goodbye is being able to say hello. For all the people that leave, new people arrive to make memories with. It is not a replacement but new friends with new stories. They bring new traditions that are continued. Hopefully we’ll be able to sail with them again in the future.
Now being on the Azores, the last stop before the final goodbye, it’s impossible not to think about home and how excited we are. But it is also important to spend as much time with one another as possible. It’s crazy to think that in not even a months time I’ll be at home bored out of my mind. I won’t have my 30 siblings around me which I can’t escape at any moment.
Today is another one of those days where we had the chance to spend time together. Starting by going on a hike and having free shore leave, followed by watching the sunset and just enjoying each others presences. In the evening we ended the day watching Bibi and Tina 3 together in the Mess and singing along to every song.
