Another interesting day is near to it´s end. The maintainance of the ship has been in the capable hands of the 3rd watch and the bosun. After some busy hours covered in sweat the works came to an early end because of the visit of the “Spirit of Bermuda”. This ship takes up to 20 students (age round about 13) –on a regular basis- for a 5 days trip in order to give them an impression of a live on and with the sea. The students and the crew of nine came to visit the Roald. We loved the feedback related to our beloved ship “She is awfully beautiful!”. The appropriate visit of our crew to their ship took place immediately. Especially the technique in their navigation station was quite impressive. Because of insurance issues the students havent´t been allowed to climb our rigg. But after the end of the “official” visit some crew members came back to enjoy the great view anyway.
Afterwards the 3rd watch had their first chance to set foot on Bermuda. The first impression of it´s white beaches was quite impressive! Tomorrow we will have a whole day to explore even more of this great island.

Ein weiterer ereignisreicher Tag neigt sich dem Ende zu. Die obligatorische Schiffserhaltung oblag heute der Wache 3. Nach einigen schweißtreibenden Stunden an Deck und im Rigg wurde diesen Tätigkeiten ein vorzeitiges Ende gesetzt. Wir bekamen Besuch von der Crew und den Students der „Spirit of Bermuda“. Dieser moderne Schoner nimmt regelmäßig Schüler von Bermuda für eine Woche an Bord, um Ihnen das Leben auf und mit der See näher zu bringen. Die 20 Students und Ihre 9 Mann Besatzung kamen längsseits und wurden von uns mit einer kurzen Führung beglückt. Der Ausruf der Crew zur Roald „she is awfully beautiful!“ hat uns natürlich sehr gefreut. Der entsprechende Gegenbesuch hat dann auch sofort stattgefunden. Insbesondere die Technik der Navi hat uns schwer beeindruckt. Aus versicherungstechnischen Gründen durften die Schüler leider nicht auf der Roald ins Rigg. Aber nachdem der „offizielle Besuch“ vorbei war kam ein Teil der Crew noch mal an Board, um den Blick von der Royal doch noch genießen zu können.
Danach war dann für unsere Wache der erste Landgang angesagt. Der erste Eindruck von Bermuda mit seinen weißen Stränden war einfach Klasse! Morgen geht es dann einen ganzen Tag rüber zu näheren Erkundungen.
