The Sail Training Experience

	We further new friendships that cross national borders and generation boundaries. We see sailing as a challenging and educational activity.

Step on deck even with no sailing experience. We will show you the rest. and we do not stop at the basics: trainees are welcome continue discovering and join our regular crew. We do have a qualification framework in place which allows to acquire the knowledge needed to work a windjammer. We foster permeability between positions in the crew. We train crew of traditional ships. Who else than traditional ships could do so?

Sailing a Tall Ship is teamwork, the experience of nature, adventure and challenge.

Tallship sailing can be hard work. Setting sails on the upper-topsail level is tough physical work. It may even happen that before one could identify where to sleep, a box of eggs requires to be juggled into the fridge (walk-in-version, litterally!), a pot of sewaterproof-grease wants to be handed over or oneself is found in the middle of a chain, taking over stocks from land. This is not to imply that we keep you trainees up and running 24 hours per day, but to make allusions to the fact that "hands-on" is required. The Roald Amundsen is not a cruise luxury liner where five-star-service is to be found on every deck. The honorary team of navigators, engineers, skilled workman, teachers, housewives, pensioners, parents, students and other people young at heart contribute to ground the message between the lines into real-life reality.

The experience of sailing and the daytoday life aboard a ship has a positive impact on many of your skills - last but not least your social skills. All that we ask for to qualify as Trainee is: be open minded.

Our program is suitable for excursions of school groups, international youth or adult groups and individuals. Daytrip or extended programs are available. The ROALD AMUNDSEN may be a special adventure for you - discover yourself one more time.
