Howto ...become a member of the crew?

It all starts with sailing as a trainee

... and deciding for yourself whether you could see yourself as a part of the permanent crew.

Whoever kindles at the idea and is enthusiastic to join us, starts a training period, starting with joining one of the training weeks offered throughout the year and reserved exclusively for the permanent crew. Here, we do not only hand down to each other specific knowledge in reference to this vessel but also do train general competencies and seamanship. On these occasions, emphasis in laid on sailing, learning and teaching - not on breaking mileage records or mooring in as many ports as possible.

Once taking your decision and joining our training programme, you either become an applicant for permanent crew or you join the permanent crew - this entirely depends on your decision and your capacities and knowledge.

Applicants for the permanent crew status contribute a daily fee of 15 EUR.

You are welcome to study the details (sorry, still in German for the moment) in our famous formal paperwork collection where you can download and print the details. You will also find the conditions for crewing.

Applicants for permanent crew status join the permanent crew on trips thoughout the season, in order to acquire an in-depht experience and learn, learn, learn. This is rather self-paced learning and - according to each one's preferences, capacities and capabilities this period can cover several trips (sometimes one, sometimes seven - as indicated, this is self-paced learning). After each trip the captain and the crew leaders together (with the applicants, of course) propose and decide who of the applicants are apt to join the permanent crew.
